On Wednesday 20th November, Cambourne Village College were named Secondary School of the year at the annual Chance to Shine Awards hosted in the Thomas Lord Suite at Lord's Cricket Ground. The commitment and enthusiasm shown by Cambourne to the new girls secondary leadership programme with 22 girls signing up to develop their leadership skills, despite many of the girls having limited experience of cricket before. Through the taster session part of the programme, 324 girls got the chance to experience cricket in these sessions, may experiencing cricket for the first time. The school also supported 3 primary school competitions in the summer of 2019
Also shortlisted in the Secondary School of the year category were Neale Wade Academy in March. Neale Wade have embraced the opportunity to offer cricket to girls in a deprived, rural area. The number of girls who have taken up cricket has tripled thanks to the "Cricket Ambassadors" who promote the sport within school.
In the schools coach of the year category, Matt Morley was shortlisted. Just over 800 coaches delivered on the chance to shine programmes in 2019 so to make the final shortlist of 3 is a huge achievement.
