Get to know Lara, our new Women’s & Girls’ Partici Get to know Lara, our new Women’s & Girls’ Participation Officer! ⬇️

We asked Lara some questions….
🏏Qu: What motivates you to grow women’s & girls’ cricket in Cambridgeshire?
Lara: I’ve been part of it from a young age & it’s been amazing to see more people grow to love the sport as much as I do. I am an advocate for women & girls in sport & the power it can have in building confidence & growing future leaders; the people & impact of cricket on lives is what continues to motive me day in day out!

🏏Qu: What does ‘successful’ growth & increased participation in Women’s & Girls’ cricket look like to you?
Lara: For me the end goal would be for equitable opportunities for women and girls to play sport, a choice to play or not rather then often being the case the attitudes, behaviours or physical barriers stop women and girls from being active. Increasing opportunities for women & girls to participate and trying to challenge some of the ‘norms’ is where I intend to start!

🏏Qu: How did you first get into cricket?
Lara: My dad & extended family played at my club, so I asked a friend from school to come with me & we went to boys training and it grew from there!

🏏Qu: What’s been a standout moment in your cricket journey so far?
Lara: Captaining my club from its first ever girls team to winning the EAPL with the women over 10years later!

🏏Qu: what do you enjoy most about cricket?
Lara: Fielding - was drilled into me from a young ages that it is fun, now I think it’s the best part of the game!

🏏Qu: What’s the one thing you’d change about the game if you could?
Lara: I would add two Sundays to the week so there are more days to fit women’s and girls’ cricket on!

🏏Qu: Is there a Women’s cricketer who particularly inspires you?
Charlotte Edwards & Lydia Greenway came to deliver a coaching session for Cambridgeshire County when I was 13. That was the first time I had come across women’s cricket as an international game, so they were probably my first inspirations.

🏏Qu: What might people be surprised to learn about you?
Lara: I’m an identical twin!
