Yesterday, eight U11 girls teams, attended the final festival of the 2026 season at Mingay Park (Burwell Cricket Club).
The teams were split into two groups, with Histon Hawks, March Town, Fulbourn Institute, and Chippenham in Group A, and Royston, City of Ely, Sawston & Babraham, and Cambridge St Giles in Group B. They played a mini league within their groups.
Group A
In Group A, there were some great matches, with some very high scores off 6 overs. Chippenham’s opening batter Esme, scored 15 runs in one game, 14 in another, and 13 in another, which included 8 fours, and 1 six! Elodie from Fulbourn also scored 15 runs in the game against March Town, hitting 2 fours and a six. The bowlers had their work cut-out but Isabella (March Town), Mythri (Histon Hawks), Emily (Fulbourn), and Molly (Fulbourn) all took 2 wickets in an over, during their matches. Group B
In a very competitive group, Sawston & Babraham’s bowling attack took 9 wickets between them, with Jessica taking 2 wickets in one over. City of Ely’s Alice scored 25 runs in 9 balls, but not to be outdone Olivia (St Giles) scored 30runs in just 7 balls – hitting 4 sixes, and in the same match she bowled a wicket maiden!! The group standings were:

Finals
The final matches were played against the team in the opposite group who finished in the same position as them, so 4th v 4th, 3rd v 3rd, 2nd v 2nd, and 1st v 1st. This gave the girls a 4th game to finish the day, and we could crown an overall winner, to take home the U11 Girls ECB Soft Ball Trophy. We were lucky enough to have Louise Vickers, one of the county’s female umpires, to come along for the final and help with the presentations. The final standings:

The weather held out for us, and the girls all had smiles on their faces, especially when they realised that nobody went home empty handed. Every single player received an ECB certificate with Nat Sciver-Brunt on the front and a Cambridgeshire Cricket drawstring bag, to reward their efforts throughout the day.
