On Sunday 14th June, 6 teams travelled to Ickleton Cricket Club, to take part in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Club World Cup. The format was 6-a-side, softball pairs, to make the games quick but fun. Before arriving all the teams were allocated with a country to represent, and a big shout out goes to Chatteris (Netherlands) and Cambourne (England) who made a huge effort buying t-shirts and flags.
The teams were split into two groups, to play a mini round robin.
Group A:
-
Cambourne – England
-
Thriplow – Australia
-
Ickleton B – Ireland
Group B
-
Ickleton A – West Indies
-

-

During the rounds, there were some great games and the standard of cricket on show from all teams was high – with some very tight bowling, brilliant catches and several 6s scored! The closest match saw Ickleton B beat Thriplow by 8 runs. Stand out performances with the bat came from Jess & Ruth (Ickleton) who scored 19 runs each, the highest individual scores of the day.
Group A Standings:

- Ickleton B – 4 points
- Thriplow – 2 points
Group B Standings:

The final was worked out, as the two teams who finished 1st in their respective groups, to play against each other to be crowned the winner of the Women’s Club World Cup. The other teams would also get to play one last game, with 2nd v 2nd and 3rd v 3rd.
Cambourne and Sutton & Haddenham Ladies are both strong teams, which made for a fun final. Jasmine (Sutton & Haddenham) took 2 wickets for 2 runs in her over to put some pressure on the Cambourne batting line-up, but they managed to take the win and went home with the trophy!
Final Standings:
- Cambourne
- Sutton & Haddenham
- Ickleton A
- Ickleton B
- Thriplow

Overall, it was a lovely day. Ickleton pulled out all the stops with a BBQ, refreshments and lots of areas for players to sit and all the players received a t-shirt from the ECB.
