W&G Indoor Soft Ball Cricket Competition

On Sunday 17th November 2024, Cambridgeshire Cricket hosted 3 girl’s clubs and 4 women’s clubs at an Indoor Soft Ball Cricket Competition at Trumpington Community College. The girl’s clubs in attendance were Histon, Sawston & Babraham and Thriplow. The women’s clubs in attendance were Sutton, March, Northstowe and Ickleton.

The day was brimming with amazing talent and for some it was their first time playing cricket; thank you to those who helped the day run so smoothly and for our official umpire Dan Vickers who volunteered his time.

Do you want to stand out from the crowd at your Cr

Do you want to stand out from the crowd at your Cricket Club and at your school through volunteering.

In 2025 Young Leaders in Cricket is back. We are looking for 25 young people from across the County who want to increase their life skills through volunteering in the game they love and their local community.

We will provide you with the following training
In Person Training:
- Coaching Activator - meaning you can assist with junior training, All Stars or Dynamos
- Young Official, you can assist your club by umpiring or scoring junior games and develop your skills
- Grounds and Environment, so you can assist your Clubs Volunteer Grounds Team in getting ready for a game and make your ground the pride of your community

Online:
- Emergency 1st Aid - so when someone else needs your help you have the confidence to step forwards
- Fundraising and Social Media Marketing
- Mental Resilience
- Safeguarding awareness

To join there is a £70 fee, both YLiC and Cambridgeshire Cricket believe that cost should not be a barrier to joining and a bursary may be available.

Your skills will also be tested with a challenge to Fundraise £60 for the programme. You can do this as a group as part of a wider fundraising effort. Any extra raised can be donated back to your club or a charity of choice.
You will need to donate 20 hours volunteering time back into your local cricket club, but you can do this by using the skills you have learned and developed. This is the essence of the Programme.

YLiC will help your confidence increase and develop so many important life skills such as developed communication, planning, project management, problem management skills and more.

These will open up many more opportunities for you, so join us for the 2025 season.

Are you a Level 1 or a Foundation Coach feeling you want to learn more to bring clearer and more successful outcomes to your coaching or may be you are an experienced player feeling its time to give back and assist that talented young player in your junior ranks to develop to achieve their full potential.

Then you should come and join us on our next Core Coach Development Course, starting on 23rd Feb at Comberton Village College.

This course adds onto everything you have learned on the ECB Foundation and teaches you the dynamics behind player-centred coaching and lets you hone you skills on the different aspects of the game using both on-line and face-to-face modules, delivered by our brilliant ECB Tutors.

There is a cost of £300, but most progressive thinking clubs pay all of part of your course fee, as a study shows that for each new coach the game recruits at least 10 more players.

One of our own 🩵💙 We wish our captain and 2023 Player of the Year, Izzy James, all the best as she moves to @kentcricket 🤝 She leaves as @cambridgeshirecricket highest female wicket taker with 110 dismissals across 7 years 🙌

Yesterday we hosted 3 girl’s teams and 4 women’s teams in an Indoor Soft Ball Competition at Trumpington Community College.

The girl’s clubs present were Histon, Sawston & Babraham and Thriplow who commenced the day; followed after were the women’s clubs Sutton, March, Northstowe and Ickleton.

Thank you to all of the coaches, managers, captains and players for organising and bringing your teams to compete.

It was amazing to see the new players and teams be supported and encouraged by everyone present.

We look forward to hosting similar events again 🏏

Cambridgeshire’s Girl’s Only STREET Project continues on Tuesday’s 6-7pm.

These soft ball sessions are ran by two qualified female coaches and are targeted for beginners and those aged 11-16 considering trying cricket for the first time.

Welcome to our most recent candidates taking part in the ECB Core Coach Development Course being held at Comberton Village College.

The course started very well with the candidates being led by tutors Matt Morley, Kevin Scully and Martin Heginbotham (and we thank our tutors for their hard work and expertise).

Good luck to all of them as they continue through the course and move into their own coaching roles.

If you want to attend a Coach Development Course our courses planned for 2025 will soon be with us.

1) Our Foundation Coach Course will start on Sunday 2nd Feb and will conclude on Sunday 9th Feb.

Each day runs from 9.30am to 4pm and will be held at Comberton Village College, West Street, Comberton, CB23 7DU.

There is a cost of £150, however you may qualify for a Bursary, courtesy of the England and Wales Cricket Foundation Trust.

This course is an excellent starting point for those starting their coaching careers, led by our brilliant band of Course Tutors.

We have 9 places left on this course, they will go in no time so please book your place soon!

2) We then host a Core Coach Development Course starting on Sunday 23rd Feb 25, then continuing on 2nd, 16th Mar and concluding on 23rd Mar.

Each day runs from 9.30am to 4pm at Comberton Village College, West Street, Comberton, CB23 7DU

This course costs £300 and again you may qualify to benefit from an ECB Bursary.

This course is aimed at developing participants on player centred coaching methods and aimed to provide both the tools and the confidence to lead sessions back at your club, school or wherever you coach.

There are 15 places left on this course but we know they will fill up, so book your place soon!

Both courses have a mixture of both on-line and face-to-face modules which will help you on your way.

Lastly, before becoming an accredited coach you will need a current ECB DBS certificate and have taken the ECB Safeguarding in Specialist Roles Training for Coaches.

Just a reminder with Junior and Senior winter nets

Just a reminder with Junior and Senior winter nets approaching you'll understand the need for a First Aid trainer to be on site (although the Coach is leading the session it doesn't mean they are a qualified 1st Aider........ they are different skills/qualifications).

So the best way to guarantee the session is run safely, with someone there who can help when required) is by you being trained.

We have two courses coming up on Wednesday 13th November at The Spicers Sports Ground, Cambridge Road, Sawston.

The first course starts at 1.45pm, the other (for those that work or can't make the daytime course) starts at 6.15pm.

The course is led by the brilliant Emma Walker and will take about 3 hours to complete.

The cost of the course is £40 and is designed to break even and represents great value, when compared to what other sports charge for exactly the same training.

Ahead of the 2025 season, the ECB will be updating how memberships are purchased and managed for members across the network.

From 28th October 2024, the ECB is changing its payment processor for Direct Debit payments. Stripe Payments UK Ltd will now be responsible for all Direct Debit collections from this date. Collections will no longer be made by NatWest.

The good news is that you do not need to take any action to continue receiving the benefits of Direct Debit.

Please be assured the only change you will notice is that with effect from 28th October, Stripe Payments UK Ltd will collect your Direct Debits on behalf of England and Wales Cricket Board Limited instead of NatWest and therefore ECB LTD will now appear on your Bank/Building Society statement.

There is no need for you to complete a new Direct Debit Instruction, as details of the change will have been supplied to your bank, which may also independently notify you.

In addition, you may also see a comment on your bank statement advising you of the final payment under the old name/details and the first payment under the new name/details.

In future, if there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, England and Wales Cricket Board Limited will notify you at least two working days in advance of your account being debited, which may be different to the notice period you have seen in the past.

You will continue to enjoy the full benefits of the Direct Debit Guarantee, as detailed below.

The date of our Grounds Association Get together h

The date of our Grounds Association Get together has had to change.

We will now be meeting on Sunday, 17th November at Burwell&Exning Cricket Club's Ground in Burwell, starting at 10am.

As always the session will be a combination of practical work and sharing of knowledge and experience from different Club grounds keepers.

Over the last year the group has grown from 15 willing soles to over 30 Grounds keepers from across the County..... and with Cambridgeshire having more than 80 Clubs we'd love to see a few more.

In addition to the Get Together sessions, the existing members stay in contact via a Watts App group, which shares news items, equipment maintenance advice and a quick warning system if (as happens from time to time) clubs in the area get broken in to.

Also Clubs can make savings, by joining together to bulk purchase seed, loam and fertiliser. Of the Clubs that took part this year each club made a saving compared to their purchases in 2023.

Lastly, it is a chance to get our Grounds Keepers together and say thank you. Our Grounds Keepers are a hardy bunch and after the wet winter and spring faced an uphill battle each week to get a brilliant pitch ready for the weekend, they had the job of End of Season renovations, allowing their squares to be in tip-top shape while they hibernate for winter. This work means prep for the 2025 season has already started.

The morning isn't just reserved for the primary Ground keeper, but the team at each club so if you are involved on the ground in any way come and join us!
