Horsford Cricket Club will become only the third cricket club in East Anglia to have SIS Grass Hybrid Wickets installed at their Manor Park ground on Friday 23rd February. With the other two cricket clubs in East Anglia that have hybrid wickets located in Essex, Horsford will be the first Norfolk cricket club to have the hybrid grass technology when they have two wickets installed.

Across the world, SIS have installed Hybrid Cricket Pitches at 36 County / International venues, at 54 cricket clubs and in 23 schools. (Full details available at the bottom of the page)

To help showcase the installation at Manor Park and allow cricket clubs from across the region to find out more about the technology and observe it being installed, SIS Pitches are working with Horsford and the our friends at the Norfolk Cricket Board to run a FREE product demonstration seminar on the morning of the day open to all clubs and volunteers. Please do share this email with your club contacts and anyone else you feel may be interested in attending this seminar.

Cambridgeshire Cricket is running talent developme

Cambridgeshire Cricket is running talent development centres across the County in 2024-25 for boys and girls who are aged 9-11 years (school years 4,5 or 6 school years). These centres fit into our overall aim to provide opportunities for as many players as possible to experience higher level coaching and matches alongside broader talent identification and player development. There will be no Cambridgeshire County Age Group teams in 2025 at under 10 or 11 level for girls or boys.

The selection process to get into one of the talent development centres will be done at an observation session where players will be able to demonstrate their ability and attitude. If a player wishes to be observed, please fill in the following form (link in Bio) you will then receive an invite and registration link to a specific session. While hard ball experience is not essential these sessions will focus on hard ball cricket. We will provide equipment where necessary.

We anticipate that players who are offered a place in a talent development centre programme will be offered in the region of 16 hours coaching over the winter with the opportunity to play in a series of matches during the summer of 2025.

This course, delivered by ECB appointed tutors, with years of umpiring and coaching experience, is designed to give new umpires the key skills, knowledge and confidence to stand as an umpire.

The date is Sunday, 22nd September between 10.30am and 5pm at Cottenham Village Pavilion.

The course is suited to a young person aged 14 and above and whether you plan to support Junior Softball cricket through to adult cricket, this course will cover the following topics:

- Understanding the role of the umpire
- Gain a basic understanding of umpiring the game
- Answering appeals and the common methods of dismissal
- How to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the game
- Judging whether or not it is safe to play

The course is split into classroom and practical learning, so we recommend learners to come dressed appropriately. Prior to the course starting Learners will be asked to complete some e-learning (which takes about an hour and a half to complete).

There is a charge of £70, however the benefits you will receive following the course have a value far greater than the charge.

Cambridgeshire Cricket work hard to ensure we support clubs in all aspects making cricket safe for al that play.

Over the Autumn and Winter period we will be running a number of Emergency First Aid courses, led by the brilliant Emma Walker.

We have two courses coming up on Wednesday 13th November both being held at the Sawston & Babraham CC Spicers Pavilion, Cambridge Road, Sawston.

Yesterday we celebrated our U11 Girls’ Soft Ball League with an end of season Finals Day kindly hosted by Sawston & Babraham CC.

A huge well done to all the players who took part.
It was fantastic to see the talent, resilience and kindness showed by all participants and a huge thank you to the clubs coaches, managers, parents and Sawston’s volunteers for making the sunny day run so smoothly.

Also a huge thank you to our official umpires who volunteered their time yesterday, who both commented on the amazing level of cricket that was displayed.

We will again be running an ECB Foundation Coach and an ECB Core Coach course over October and November.

Over the summer you may have seen someone coach and think "I would like to do that" or you may be informally coaching already but feel you should finally take the leap to qualify or you have seen your son or daughter take an interest in the game, join a club but notice they are short of coaches and you want to help as you have something to offer.

To become a fully accredited coach both courses involve online modules, which you can take at home, prior to the course starting.

The minimum age to attend the course is 17, you will become accredited once you turn 18. You must have an up-to-date ECB DBS certificate and complete the online Safeguarding in Specialist Roles training.

Many clubs in Cambridgeshire will pay the course fee either in part or full providing you attend and successfully complete the course.

Following on from success of our recent Umpiring S

Following on from success of our recent Umpiring Skills Workshops we are pleased to announce the date of the next ECB Introduction to Umpiring Course.

This course is a relatively new course, which started just under a year a go, combined online modules (which everyone can do from home, and 1 x 6 hour face-to face session.

There is a cost of £70, however in return for your attendance and completion of the course you will receive -
* 1 years free membership of the Association of Cricket Officials (ACO) which will provide you with Insurance for games in which you officiate and access further online training and development
** Membership of the Cambs and Hunts Association of Cricket
Officials (CHACO) which provides local face-to-face networking and development meetings, giving you the chance to meet with a wide range of officiating colleagues ranging from those who stand in the EAPL to those who are just starting out!
*** Development opportunities to stand with experienced umpires and receive peer training and coaching directly while or after a game
**** The chance to receive up to 50% of your course fee back if you stand in 3 or more County Age Group games in your first year
***** A small ACO goody bag just for being there!

Nominations for #thecricketcollective Grassroots C

Nominations for #thecricketcollective Grassroots Cricket Awards in Cambridgeshire closed last night and we want to say a massive "Thank you!"

We have received 64 nominations against 14 categories from clubs across the County.

Over the next week, the tough job of judging takes place and the Category Winners will receive an invitation to join us at the brilliant Presentation Day at the Cloud County Ground in Chelmsford on 11th September, where, in the Hospitality Marquee we partner and join our friends from Essex County Cricket Club to share the Presentation Day and get the opportunity to watch some first class cricket as Essex take on Notts in the County Championship.

All nominees will be written to and we will highlight their successful nomination across Social Media and our Website - www.cambscricket.org.uk

Thank you again for the nominations, it really does signify that we have a large number of special people carrying out marvellous work across Cricket Clubs in Cambridgeshire which benefit not only their club members, but the wider cricket community as well.

We continue to seek nominations for the "Cricket Collective" Grassroots Awards and the deadline of Sunday 18th August is looming large.
We have received 49 nominations so far, but we need more, we have over 80 clubs and I still bet there are 2 people in each club who are absolute Superstars who we need to know about.
Lets have a look at at a Couple of the Winners from last Year.
Meet Oran, Oran was 16 when he won the Rising Star Award Category, during the season he was taking his GCSE's, but still found time to assist with coaching in his club, complete the Young Leaders in Cricket programme which gave him new skills and found time to fundraise for the MCC Foundation Hub in Cambridge. Since winning the award Oran has continued his good work.
Meet Phil Kingsmill, Phil leads the team that won the Volunteer Grounds Team Award. Lets be clear the award was not for the best ground, but the team who moved mountains to ensure those who played at the ground had a better all-round experience in 2023 than they did in 2022, by making lots of improvements (some large and some small). Phil attended all of the Cambs Grounds Keepers meetings, always looking to listen and learn his craft. Following the award the teams aim for 2024 was to give teams playing a better experience than in 2023 and feedback received tells us they are achieving just that!
A reminder the deadline for entries is Sunday 18th Aug, we also attach details of the Categories and the criteria against each category and the QR code, which will take you to the nomination form and all winners will be invited to join us at the Presentation Day on 11th September at Chelmsford where we celebrate with our partners from Essex County Cricket Club while watching Essex in the County Championship.

Following on from our recent drive to develop umpi

Following on from our recent drive to develop umpiring skills across the County a good news story.
Meet Louise Vickers.

Louise is Secretary at Histon Cricket Club and is a cricket mum, with husband Dan a coach also at Histon and children who all play.

In April Louise attended the ECB Introduction to Umpiring Course held at Sawston & Babraham CC's Spicers Pavilion.

After that Louise was unsure where she should start her umpiring. So with small steps Louise started umpiring junior games at Histon and then Louise was introduced to experienced umpire Lizzy Conder, is is also a Board Member of Cambridgeshire Cricket.

Last Sunday, Louise stood in a Cambridgeshire Under 13 Girls game with Lizzy and did a great job.

Asked about her experience Louise remarked "It was incredible to be able to learn whilst the game was happening, to get feedback that I could put into action straight away, and then further feedback at the end to take away and develop my own strategies for. Lizzy was so helpful with her calm and measured, yet firm and decisive approach. I will treasure that experience and take it out in the field with me every time I umpire."

We think you did a great job Louise, thank you and we look forwards to seeing where umpiring takes you next!

Although we have had no Boys u10 squad this season, in does not mean we have not invested in the age group running skills development sessions during Winter and spring, culminating in the group getting together for 2 x Group based Hundred Format games.

Both games were competitive, with some developing talent on show.

Clubs tell us they need more Coaches in their clubs to help bring forward the next generation of players and in the last year (From April 8th 2023 to April 7th 2024) we have helped over 100 people from different clubs, school and backgrounds to qualify as a coach.

Each year we organise ECB Coach Education courses to enable candidates to become a fully qualified cricket coach. These popular courses are all delivered by our highly experienced tutor team.

Below we announce the dates of our Autumn and Winter programme of the ECB Foundation Coach courses we will be running.

The Foundation Coach Course is an excellent course for those new to coaching, it teaches you the four key pillars that are so important in the development of young cricketers.
